Fishing Still Great on Barren River Lake

My friends as the TH Marine, FLW, BFL comes to Barren River Lake this weekend the bags should be a sight to see.  As some of the best fishermen of the Mountain Division descend on Barren River Lake I expect to see some good bags weighed in.  For what has seemed the last few years a lake on the decline the last month has shown Barren River Lake is still a fisherman’s paradise.

Bass are being caught on long points dragging a Carolina rig.  Or on a chunk rock transition bank dragging a Texas rigged worm.  Lets not forget the power of a jig on this lake.  Look on bluffs,  with a green jig for some fish as well.  Above is Taylor Logsdon of Barren Outdoors,  She and dad Todd got on the water this week and really got some chunks in the boat!IMG_0248

Hybrids are good right now too.  Trolling around the island with shad or shiners works well.  Use your electronics to find the shad.

Catfish should be moving in on the rock walls to spawn very soon and the action should be fast!  Use a pop eye jig an ultra light rod and reel with 6 pound test it is a blast! Under a float on the rip raff near bridges.

Fishers of Men was on Nolin Lake this week.  It took just over 9 pounds to win!  The fishing was tough.  A lot of fish were caught but it was difficult to find and big fish.  Big fish was 2.7 pounds.

Thank you for reading.  I would love to see any photos you all have!  Good luck and God Bless!0007

Barren River Lake is on FIRE! 5-30-18

Hello friends!  I must say this has been the best two weeks I have had on Barren River Lake in 10 years.  The bass are on point.  It is akin to the good ol days.  I have no idea what the difference is this May but I am sure glad it is here.

I can’t help but wonder if the high water this spring which caused the lake to be tough had an effect on the fish.  They were more scattered and that made the pressure seem less.  Now that the water is down the fish are in their normal pattern, but they just seem eager to eat.  For me the days of catching a boat full of fish had seemed a thing of the past.  But me and a few of my readers are all seeing the same trend.  Good size and good numbers!6A801C93-7296-474C-92BE-47D8868F5B00

So what are those green guys doing?  They are on transition banks close to pockets or coves.  Where the channel begins to move away from the bluff.  This pattern should hold through this week I believe.  Once you dial it in you should catch 3 to 4 fish off each little area.  It is a small portion of the bank these fish are relating to.  You just fish it until you start dialing it in.  Soft plastics Texas rigged os the trick.  Fish your confidence color and it should work.

Mark Towe, is in the feature image up top.  He boated some chunks over the weekend.  He told me it was his best day on the lake so far.  Ross Anglin, above has also boated some chunks the last two weeks. How about that Fishers of Men cap Ross, Thanks for the support! Eric Price, below has really been on them as well.9F30E650-5779-4BAC-9AC9-9E612B2698C1

Fishers of Men has a tournament on Nolin on the 9th of June we would sure love to see you all come out!  We are on Barren on the 30th of June.  Weigh in will be at three for each event.  send me an email or call for more information.3C18C486-D461-4A9C-B905-43D878D4F2A5

Catfish have been good as well.  Good numbers are being caught on live worms in coves.  Soon they will be moving to the rock walls, crickets on pop eye jigs are the ticket for that.  Go see Todd at Barren Outdoors he can put you on the right stuff.  Don’t forget you can park at the bridges and fish that rip raff the same way, the catfish will be there too.

Some hybrid are being caught trolling in the channels.  Live shad is best.

Blue Gills are everywhere right now.  Get some crickets and you should fill a basket up!

It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know, my friend Eddie Goode lost his daughter over the weekend in a car accident.  I ask that you all Pray for the family.  Eddie and his family love to fish and love Jesus, and are a blessing to all who know them.

In closing I want to thank my Sponsors, Barren Outdoors, GLoomis, Shimano, Jakal, Power Pro Lines, and Freddie’s Dugout.  If you all enjoy reading these reports, please give these folks some support, without them this could not happen.  I also want to send a shout out to Fishers of Men tournament trail.  If you guys want to be involved with a great organization check them out.

Good Luck and God Bless!

What an Amazing Year!

Well folks Christmas is behind us now, things should slowly return to normal.  Families and loved ones are headed back home. The gifts are handed out and left overs abound!  Now as the new year rapidly approaches we have time to do some reflecting on what a year it has been.  photo5

The first thing that comes to my mind about this year and there are many is Leslie.  Leslie and I went on our first date about this time last year.  I was instantly smitten with her beauty, abundance of life, Love of God, and the way that light just always seems to follow and attach to her.  As we grew closer, the man who thought he had things figured out was shown a different path.  God showed up big.  I prayed every night for months that if she was not the person God had for me for Him to take her away.  To the point that God said enough Josh she is mine and I want to give her to you.  She is an inspiration, she strengthens me and she is a gift to all who are Blessed enough to know her. photo6

Secondly is my amazing son.  Lane is another amazing child of God.  He always has my back.  Lane blesses me in so many ways.  His talent is such a blessing to so many people.  His faith is strong and he truly loves people.  I know God has big plans for this young man, and am excited to see them come to life.  I have to remind myself when Lane does something bone headed that he is only 15, and he is growing.  I pray he continues to grow and learns from his mistakes.  He has a huge heart and it will serve him well.photo4

Professionally It has been an epic ride.  While taking classes at WKU, fishing, working at PJ’S College, it has been a busy year.  I will finish my HR classes in May at WKU.  I am proud to have that under my belt.  I have been made Director of West KY Fishers of Men.  I have caught a lot of fish and met a lot of great people on the water.  Just recently I was named CAO of PJ’S College Glasgow.  Hard work, great guidance and Prayer work.

This year I have grown spiritually, emotionally, and mentally.  What more could any person ask for.  I have been abundantly Blessed.  I have great friends and family.  I have an amazing son and wife.  My career is going great.  I am humbled and overwhelmed by this year as a whole.  Mountain tops are sure nice to be on and I am enjoying it. It is a reminder to me how our strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord.  Sometimes that wait can be long, I promise it is worth it, and I praise God for both.  We can not grow without some growing pains.  God makes all things work together for our good.  I look forward to 2018 and where He leads we will follow.  Thank You all for reading. I hope 2017 was better to you than it was me.  I pray that 2018 is even better for you.imageimageimageimage

Now lets talk about Lake Cumberland.  My friend Ross Anglin and I hit the water with my dear old Dad a couple of weeks ago.  We had a drizzly great time.  The weather was damp cold and overcast.  Absolutely perfect for a winter time trip.

We headed out before daylight in Glasgow.  We had a great trip over catching up, cutting up and a lot of laughter.  We met my Dad and began looking for some fish.  The fish were there pretty soon I had one hooked which got tangled in cover and I broke it off.  Ross missed a couple early on.  Then we got on them.  Ross is pictured above with his personal best spotted bass.  Ross had a grand slam that day.  He caught spotted bass, largemouth, crappie and catfish.  We kept the crappie I think we ended up with 8 big crappie, a few spots, two cats, and a largemouth. The bite stopped around lunch time so we headed out got some lunch and headed home.

We had an amazing trip and look forward to hitting it agin soon.  The colder the water gets the better the fishing will get.  If you get a chance to try them I encourage it.

All the fish were holding deep.  At least 30 feet down.  I caution you if you are not keeping the fish you should know how to fizz them before you go.  We used NED rigs, silver buddy, and live minnows.  They were all around wood cover in deep water.  also watch for feeding birds they can sure be helpful in finding some fish.IMG_3421

Good luck and God Bless.
