Its Called Baggage Because We Carry It

image

As 2019 busts into 2018 I find myself reflective on the most amazing year of my life.  The first year of marriage, to a beautiful and Godly woman.  Lane having a good year at school and beginning his journey into his career.  From working long hours, to traveling and fishing in new exciting places.  God has truly shined his favor on our family in 2018.

While 2018 was full of huge blessings, that doesn’t mean it has been without some turbulence.  We all have moments every week when challenges can show up.  My biggest challenge this past year was fishing.  I tried a position with Fishers of Men tournament trail,  which is a great organization, only to find that I am not cut out for that job.  So after a wrestling match with myself I decided 2018 would be the only year I would hold that position.  I was blessed at each event, it boiled down to time for me.  I had over-extended myself, and found that I dreaded being near the lake.  It was a huge learning experience and I am glad I did it.  At first I felt like a failure, like all I had worked for was not what I was supposed to do. That is what satan wanted, I stopped writing I stopped fishing, I lost my drive for doing this, which is what I love.

God always wins, persistence is the key to success.  I always tell my students, you can have one of two things.  A result, or an excuse.  I have been using an excuse the last few months when it comes to serving.  I have been carrying something God never intended for me to carry.  I think a lot of folks are carrying things into this new year that God doesn’t want us to carry.  I have learned God wants his people to be happy, he loves to Bless us.  More importantly we deserve to be happy.

2 CORINTHIANS 12:10-11

10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Paul’s Concern for the Corinthians

11 I have made a fool of myself, but you drove me to it. I ought to have been commended by you, for I am not in the least inferior to the “super-apostles,” even though I am nothing.

One big step to being happy is a Blessing to God, when we show our Faith by trusting God in times of hardship God is Glorified.

PSALMS37:4-14

4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.
12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;
13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.
14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright

God doesn’t want us carrying burdens.  He asks us to lay them down.

MATHEW 11;28
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest

So for each of you who happen to read this I Pray you head into the new year, burden free carrying with you good thoughts and Gods Promises.

Josh what about the fish?  Well to be honest I am not sure.  I have not been on the water since Black Friday.  I hear Dale Hollow is producing great.  Long Points with live bait.  I will be researching some fishing very soon and get back to helping you guys catch fish.
Good Luck and God Bless!

Fall is Almost Here

Hello friends, sorry it has been a while since my last post. I hope each of you have had a Blessed summer. Work has been going very well. We are very Blessed to be so busy. Lane, my son has entered the work force as a sandwich artist at Subway. The photography business is doing great. I must confess, all this hustling has sure cut into fishing in the last few weeks.

I took a morning and struck out before work last week. I met my good friend Ross Anglen at the boat ramp before daylight and we hit the water. The morning was perfect, overcast and humid. It felt like the fish should bite. We traveled way up Beaver Creek and began chunking buzz baits into the water. soon my chartreuse buzz bait disappeared into a sudden void on the surface of the water. The razor sharp hook instantly penetrated the top lip of this angry little bass. Man this little guy jumped and shook but to no avail he soon swung onto the back deck of Ross’ new boat. This fish was 14 inches of fury, he was as still shaking and swinging as i struggled to get my hand in his mouth he finned me and I ended up with the buzz bait in my thumb too, although not deep, thank goodness. That was the only hit we had up there, so we moved back out of the creek to some better looking water.

Then we found fish. It was great! I put on a texas rigged worm. Ross threw a jig. We both began picking up fish. None were huge but they were fun. I did foul hook a pretty good channel cat. The bite was strange like a blue gill, he hit I lifted did’t feel any weight, he bumped it again, again no weight. The third time he bumped I felt and there was weight. I set the hook and said he has some shoulders, Ross this is a good one… Then it rolled, I said well its not a bass. We had a good laugh at my expense and I got to hear “shoulders” from Ross the rest of the day.

We did catch some nice bass, we had a great morning. I think we both needed the time in Gods creation. No phones, no work, no pressure, just two friends in nature.
Psalms 51:10-12 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

My spirit needed the time, I needed the time. We are called to be selfless, putting all others before us. I believe that is true. I also believe the body, mind, and spirit needs time to focus on what truly is important. A God centered life, when life becomes the center a slow down is just what we need. Go somewhere you feel how massive and perfect Gods love is. For me that is on the water, or in the woods. Get out of your day to day and go find yours.
Isaiah 45:12 “It is I who made the earth, and created man upon it I stretched out the heavens with My hands And I ordained all their host.”

Bass : were on wood about 8 feet deep soft plastic or a jig. We caught them early and in good numbers.

Bluegill: were close to the bass about 8 feet near rock or wood Crickets would be my choice.

Catfish: the one I caught was just off the channel on mud.

The Blue Print to Success

Hello friends,  I hope you are all well.  The Morris household is very Blessed.  We had a great tournament on KY Lake last Month.  It is finals week for me at WKU.  PJ’s is booming. Leslie Kidd Photography is growing by leaps and bounds. My son Lane is working on his music career, and plays two gigs this week.  We are also in preparation for the Fishers of Men tournament on Green River Lake on the 19th of this month.

It occurred to me this morning, that a lot of people don’t understand what it looks like to be prosperous.  We set and wonder why we can’t get ahead, and we make bad decision with the money God has blessed us with.  We over extend ourselves finically, to fill voids that will never be filled with material things.  Oh they may make us happy at the moment but it can be fleeting.  For instance I would love to have a brand new Bass Cat boat, and I could go buy one, but then I would have to make the first payment and my buyers remorse would set in.  I am not saying we shouldn’t enjoy what we have been blessed with.  I think we should, but I also think we should not enjoy it to the point that we don’t meet our commitments.IMG_0097

I know God wants us to be prosperous. Honest hard work with Faith in mind is something God wants from everyone. He has given us a blue print for it. Proverbs 14:23 All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Palms 90:17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I had trouble tithing for so many years,  it was a lack of trust in God.  But lets be honest it is all his anyway. Since I have started I have been in better shape financially.  God has Blessed the money we have and increased what we bring in.  However I still was not completely trusting.  I would not give the first ten percent.  I would give 5 percent this week and 5 percent next week.  Just incase something came up.  I am now giving my first ten percent and it just feels better.  Showing God I trust him with my finances completely and in every aspect of my life can be difficult because I think I am in control.  I had a real conviction about this, and the growth that is coming from it is amazing. Deuteronomy 15:10 Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.

IMG_0098Doing the work is how we get there.  We must trust the process, and not doubt that God will provide what we need to prosper.  It won’t just fall in our lap.  being prosperous looks a lot like hard work.  We must delight in it,  we must give back as well.  After all everything we have is a gift.  I love my life,  I love my work, and I love giving back. I fall short each day I miss opportunities to further Gods Kingdom.  But through hard work, prayer, reading Gods word, and listening I am getting better.

Now lets talk some fishing.IMG_0108

Barren River Lake the water is still high. About 8 feet over summer pool. Water temp was 70 degrees on Monday.

Joey Vincent found some Crappie up past Siddens Bridge.  It appears they had a great day up there!

Bass were very tough on Monday.  We found one on a bed and one out on a transition bank leading onto a pocket.  Nothing of any size.  The water being up and down and temperature fluctuations I believe has made them a bit difficult to pattern this spring on Barren River Lake.

Catfish, now the catfish noodles were everywhere Monday.  So it appears they are eating on flats. Which is where we ran into this guy.54740259812__9509C7C0-D98D-4ECA-AD57-86F36BCF15E3 2

I hope you all get out this weekend and enjoy some outdoors.  Happy Mothers day and God Bless.

Kentucky Lake is Next Weekend

Happy Sunday folks.  I hope everyone has had a blessed Easter season.  Ours was amazing.

We have gotten our first tournament behind us on Barren.  I was very happy to meet everyone.  While I am still having trouble working with the software, I know I will get it all figured out.

The day was beautiful the sun was out it was warm.  The fishing was tuff, but some of our fine anglers put limits together.  I was very impressed with the number of good spotted bass that was brought in.8D1A893F-2105-4486-953C-8D5D2ADBD438

We had a great meal Friday night, and one person recommitted his life to Christ.  95C35E6F-431F-45AD-BD65-45A52F1917CD

A great meal was provided by Barren Outdoors, and Ross Anglen delivered a great message.

We also can’t forget the hotdogs at the weigh in.  Thanks to Food Lion. And some good chefs.

Fresh water, salt water. We love them both.

Happy Monday.  I hope everyone was safe in the snow this morning.  Winter just will not let go this year.  I for one am ready for warm days and setting around a fire at night while the lightning bugs and kadie dids put on a show. (I am sure I misspelled kadie did but y’all know what I am talking about)  Some 9 P.M. sunsets cat fish at the pond, and the smell of sunscreen mixed with bug spray.

As many of you already know Leslie and I just had the opportunity to go down to FL.  While there I got to mark off some bucket list items.  A bass in the 10 pound range, my first saltwater fishing trip,  my first shark, my first tilapia, and my first alligator in the wild. 172FE130-DE4D-4D12-B2E3-C6559F56F661

I believe it was the first morning there I headed out.  The lake was a small private lake on Leslie’s Aunts property.  I had fished it a little in the fall but not as extensively as I wanted.  The early bite was on a zoom speed worm texas rigged and swam.  It proved very effective and I caught a ton of 2 to 5 pound fish.  Then I was out of worms.  I tried a yum dinger next.  I caught a few dinks on it so I changed it up.  9A639A4A-7C27-487A-B4D9-8B397CC2543E

I had a gold, red eye shad, I decided to give it a throw.  On the second cast it stopped.  A good five pound fish had engulfed it.  I thought now we are on to something.  These are the fish I want. As I worked around the small lake, which is in a wetland protection program.  I cast next to and past a reed that was standing alone.  I had discovered there was a line of old reeds that were under water but almost created a reef type structure the fish were relating to that hump. On one side the water was deeper and shallow on the other.  This is where the big girl was.  She hit and I knew she was a good one.  However she did not feel any bigger than the five pound fish I had been catching.  Then she tried to jump, that is right i said tried.  Her head looked like a five gallon bucket and her eyes did not even get out of the water.  Well I started talking to God.  I think we have all been there if we fish please let me get this monster in.  There was wood and weeds and all kinds of cover.  I got her in clamped my hand in her mouth and hoisted her out of the water.  I was shaking like a leaf the adreninlin was pumping I had a moment akin to Mike Icconeli.  I got her to the house for the photo, and she was released.  He stomach was huge I could barely get my hand under enought to support her.AC7811A5-7236-4D05-ADE7-378AA38647F8

It was an amazing morning on the water to say the least.

One afternoon we were getting ready to go out.  I decided to walk down to the water and make a few casts.  I hung into a fish and thought I had another huge bas for a few minutes.  Then I saw its side.1A6A8B0B-3F47-436A-92E2-BB6CFC3BA567

I promise I had washed this shirt!  It was a tilapia,  We were not sure what it was at first.  did some research and that is what we came up with.  These guys are fun to catch too.  They were mostly on the beds and hard to entice.  Sure not like bed fishing bass cause I tried them.

The next to last night Sheri and I went out shark fishing.  It was a great time.  We lost a rod and broke the other.  I sure did not expect these salt water fish to be so strong!  B04F18AC-C728-43F8-B0CB-473FCD04DBE7

We hit the bonnet heads and some cat fish.  I will for sure be on that peer the first night I get to go back down there.

The fishing was amazing no doubt.  It was a great time we visited, we relaxed, we sat on the beach and prayed.  Sometimes stepping out of what we are normally doing is exactly what we need.  It can set the stage for tremendous things.  We must work, we must strive, but we also must stop and smell the roses.  While I am blessed to get to consider a trip to FL fishing a work trip, it was also some much needed time of reflection and rest.  It does not have to be a trip to FL it can be a trip to the creek on the back of the farm, but I think it is very important for people to get these moments of solitude, moments when we are reminded how small we are and how great God is.

1 John 4:4 New International Version (NIV)

So please if this long winter has you down, know that the spring is coming.  Thank you all for reading.

Good luck and God Bless.

Knowing Gods Plan

Rest on Gods plan for you

I was in m thirties whens Gods plan became evident to me.  God has a way of waiting until we are ready to receive His instructions.  Then sometimes his instructions are just a stepping stone to the next phase in his grand scheme.  In our journey we are often attacked.  We are attacked by fear, then by people who don’t support our journey.  Often it can be a close person in our life, who thinks its crazy.  History proves that Gods plan often seems crazy to the world, then in hind sight we say oh yes I knew that was right.

I am very Blessed as I know where God is leading me right now.  I do not think it is by any means the end of my journey but I know it is my next step.  I will rest on the knowledge of Gods promises to me.  I find comfort in them. Romans 8:29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.  I know where God is leading me and I know it will not always be easy.  I am determined to see it through, and I find comfort that God will provide for me while I labor toward it.21538D9F-1536-4228-9076-B0EE6841DEAF

How do we know Gods plan?  That is a hard question but  one you need to ask yourself.  It can be as simple as being a disciple to someone you work with.  Showing kindness to a stranger.  Things we take for granted every day.  I find myself ignoring the day to day ways God uses me sometimes.  It is convicting when I catch myself doing so.  I lay in bed at night with my wife. We spend time together in prayer.  Thanking God for our day our safety our family and our opportunities we have been offered to help.  We pray for our short comings, our future and finances.  We pray for Gods will to be shown to us.  We both believe that if we put God first in everything, then everything else falls into place.  So the real answer to the question is to be still and rest on the promise, that God has a plan for you.1A6A8B0B-3F47-436A-92E2-BB6CFC3BA567

That being said one can not simply wait all the time.  It is a marathon, that takes training, and sweat, and hard work.  Start by praying, reading, getting out of your own head.   Go do something for someone else.  Go to church, seek wise counsel.  Proverbs 11:14Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in abundance of counselors there is victory.  If you are struggling with your path seek knowledgable people and ask questions.  The only dumb question os the one you don’t ask.

I have included photos from Florida. Leslie and I were blessed to get a chance to go spend time in the warm sun, catching my personal best.  Close to a 10 pound 27 inch large mouth bass.  I also got to catch a tilapia, and my first shark.  I saw my first wild alligator.  I saw God everywhere from the sunsets to the nice people I got to spend my time with.

God is always in control.  We just have to move our will out of the way, and seek His.  I pray everyday to be pleasing to God.  I know I fall short we all do, that doesn’t mean we are not good enough.  It means we are human. Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. So lets rest on Gods promises, and follow where He leads us.  May God richly Bless all of you.  Thank you all for reading.
