Floods Never Last

I hope everyone is having a good week, and I hope everyone’s thumb is as scuffed as mine! I had the opportunity to get on the water a few times over the holiday weekend. While I would go early, or late to avoid the crowd the fish were very active. With the waters back to near summer pool, the fish are back to their normal haunts.

We experienced very high waters this spring at Barren River Lake. Closed ramps, and tuff fishing caused many folks to go fish else where. Life is often like this. God uses and has used floods to impart change in His children. Lets face it folks change is the hardest thing a human can do, often times we have to be pushed to the breaking point before we change. Rock bottom if you will.

When floods come in our lives, and we move toward change it can be difficult. That is where God shows up. If we have him in our heart with the understanding that he makes all things work together for our good, then we still have joy in our time of flood. We still have peace, and confidence that everything will be ok.

Genesis 8:1 says,

“But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the cattle that were with him in the ark; and God caused a wind to pass over the earth, and the water subsided.”

While seasons of change when we are in them, can be so in our faces that we can not see the forrest for the trees. I rest in the promises of God that there is a season for every thing this is just a page in the story of my life.“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.” (1 Peter 4:12-13)

As you walk through your trials, and are forced out of velvet lined rut remember God puts us where he needs us one way or another. While it is hard it won’t always be.

Romans 8:28 New International Version (NIV)

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.

We had a great spring and fished new waters the sure was fun. Had the high waters not came we would have chugged along doing what we always do. My friends, family and I all stretched out of our comfort zones to put fish in the boat. We caught some real chunks and are excited to build on what we learned all because of a flood.

Bass: have been on fire! Its post spawn and these guys are hungry. Fry guarding is over and the fish are moving to their deep water hide outs. I am sure some are there but those late spawners are still on transition bluffs leaving areas where they would have spawned.

Me and the guys caught em!

Catfish: Are spawning . It is cricket time on Barren River Lake. Go to a bluff, take the kids some ultra light tackle, floaters, and a bucket of crickets. You will want to use pop eye jigs or small blue gill hooks. You will fill the boat with blue gills and catfish. We caught all of the above this weekend, on bass gear. They are aggressive so go get em!

Good Luck and God Bless.

Its Called Baggage Because We Carry It

As 2019 busts into 2018 I find myself reflective on the most amazing year of my life.  The first year of marriage, to a beautiful and Godly woman.  Lane having a good year at school and beginning his journey into his career.  From working long hours, to traveling and fishing in new exciting places.  God has truly shined his favor on our family in 2018.

While 2018 was full of huge blessings, that doesn’t mean it has been without some turbulence.  We all have moments every week when challenges can show up.  My biggest challenge this past year was fishing.  I tried a position with Fishers of Men tournament trail,  which is a great organization, only to find that I am not cut out for that job.  So after a wrestling match with myself I decided 2018 would be the only year I would hold that position.  I was blessed at each event, it boiled down to time for me.  I had over-extended myself, and found that I dreaded being near the lake.  It was a huge learning experience and I am glad I did it.  At first I felt like a failure, like all I had worked for was not what I was supposed to do. That is what satan wanted, I stopped writing I stopped fishing, I lost my drive for doing this, which is what I love.

God always wins, persistence is the key to success.  I always tell my students, you can have one of two things.  A result, or an excuse.  I have been using an excuse the last few months when it comes to serving.  I have been carrying something God never intended for me to carry.  I think a lot of folks are carrying things into this new year that God doesn’t want us to carry.  I have learned God wants his people to be happy, he loves to Bless us.  More importantly we deserve to be happy.

2 CORINTHIANS 12:10-11

10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Paul’s Concern for the Corinthians

11 I have made a fool of myself, but you drove me to it. I ought to have been commended by you, for I am not in the least inferior to the “super-apostles,” even though I am nothing.

One big step to being happy is a Blessing to God, when we show our Faith by trusting God in times of hardship God is Glorified.

PSALMS37:4-14

4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.
12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;
13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.
14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright

God doesn’t want us carrying burdens.  He asks us to lay them down.

MATHEW 11;28
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest

So for each of you who happen to read this I Pray you head into the new year, burden free carrying with you good thoughts and Gods Promises.

Josh what about the fish?  Well to be honest I am not sure.  I have not been on the water since Black Friday.  I hear Dale Hollow is producing great.  Long Points with live bait.  I will be researching some fishing very soon and get back to helping you guys catch fish.
Good Luck and God Bless!

Fall is Almost Here

Hello friends, sorry it has been a while since my last post. I hope each of you have had a Blessed summer. Work has been going very well. We are very Blessed to be so busy. Lane, my son has entered the work force as a sandwich artist at Subway. The photography business is doing great. I must confess, all this hustling has sure cut into fishing in the last few weeks.

I took a morning and struck out before work last week. I met my good friend Ross Anglen at the boat ramp before daylight and we hit the water. The morning was perfect, overcast and humid. It felt like the fish should bite. We traveled way up Beaver Creek and began chunking buzz baits into the water. soon my chartreuse buzz bait disappeared into a sudden void on the surface of the water. The razor sharp hook instantly penetrated the top lip of this angry little bass. Man this little guy jumped and shook but to no avail he soon swung onto the back deck of Ross’ new boat. This fish was 14 inches of fury, he was as still shaking and swinging as i struggled to get my hand in his mouth he finned me and I ended up with the buzz bait in my thumb too, although not deep, thank goodness. That was the only hit we had up there, so we moved back out of the creek to some better looking water.

Then we found fish. It was great! I put on a texas rigged worm. Ross threw a jig. We both began picking up fish. None were huge but they were fun. I did foul hook a pretty good channel cat. The bite was strange like a blue gill, he hit I lifted did’t feel any weight, he bumped it again, again no weight. The third time he bumped I felt and there was weight. I set the hook and said he has some shoulders, Ross this is a good one… Then it rolled, I said well its not a bass. We had a good laugh at my expense and I got to hear “shoulders” from Ross the rest of the day.

We did catch some nice bass, we had a great morning. I think we both needed the time in Gods creation. No phones, no work, no pressure, just two friends in nature.
Psalms 51:10-12 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

My spirit needed the time, I needed the time. We are called to be selfless, putting all others before us. I believe that is true. I also believe the body, mind, and spirit needs time to focus on what truly is important. A God centered life, when life becomes the center a slow down is just what we need. Go somewhere you feel how massive and perfect Gods love is. For me that is on the water, or in the woods. Get out of your day to day and go find yours.
Isaiah 45:12 “It is I who made the earth, and created man upon it I stretched out the heavens with My hands And I ordained all their host.”

Bass : were on wood about 8 feet deep soft plastic or a jig. We caught them early and in good numbers.

Bluegill: were close to the bass about 8 feet near rock or wood Crickets would be my choice.

Catfish: the one I caught was just off the channel on mud.

The Blue Print to Success

Hello friends,  I hope you are all well.  The Morris household is very Blessed.  We had a great tournament on KY Lake last Month.  It is finals week for me at WKU.  PJ’s is booming. Leslie Kidd Photography is growing by leaps and bounds. My son Lane is working on his music career, and plays two gigs this week.  We are also in preparation for the Fishers of Men tournament on Green River Lake on the 19th of this month.

It occurred to me this morning, that a lot of people don’t understand what it looks like to be prosperous.  We set and wonder why we can’t get ahead, and we make bad decision with the money God has blessed us with.  We over extend ourselves finically, to fill voids that will never be filled with material things.  Oh they may make us happy at the moment but it can be fleeting.  For instance I would love to have a brand new Bass Cat boat, and I could go buy one, but then I would have to make the first payment and my buyers remorse would set in.  I am not saying we shouldn’t enjoy what we have been blessed with.  I think we should, but I also think we should not enjoy it to the point that we don’t meet our commitments.IMG_0097

I know God wants us to be prosperous. Honest hard work with Faith in mind is something God wants from everyone. He has given us a blue print for it. Proverbs 14:23 All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Palms 90:17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I had trouble tithing for so many years,  it was a lack of trust in God.  But lets be honest it is all his anyway. Since I have started I have been in better shape financially.  God has Blessed the money we have and increased what we bring in.  However I still was not completely trusting.  I would not give the first ten percent.  I would give 5 percent this week and 5 percent next week.  Just incase something came up.  I am now giving my first ten percent and it just feels better.  Showing God I trust him with my finances completely and in every aspect of my life can be difficult because I think I am in control.  I had a real conviction about this, and the growth that is coming from it is amazing. Deuteronomy 15:10 Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.

IMG_0098Doing the work is how we get there.  We must trust the process, and not doubt that God will provide what we need to prosper.  It won’t just fall in our lap.  being prosperous looks a lot like hard work.  We must delight in it,  we must give back as well.  After all everything we have is a gift.  I love my life,  I love my work, and I love giving back. I fall short each day I miss opportunities to further Gods Kingdom.  But through hard work, prayer, reading Gods word, and listening I am getting better.

Now lets talk some fishing.IMG_0108

Barren River Lake the water is still high. About 8 feet over summer pool. Water temp was 70 degrees on Monday.

Joey Vincent found some Crappie up past Siddens Bridge.  It appears they had a great day up there!

Bass were very tough on Monday.  We found one on a bed and one out on a transition bank leading onto a pocket.  Nothing of any size.  The water being up and down and temperature fluctuations I believe has made them a bit difficult to pattern this spring on Barren River Lake.

Catfish, now the catfish noodles were everywhere Monday.  So it appears they are eating on flats. Which is where we ran into this guy.54740259812__9509C7C0-D98D-4ECA-AD57-86F36BCF15E3 2

I hope you all get out this weekend and enjoy some outdoors.  Happy Mothers day and God Bless.

Kentucky Lake is Next Weekend

Happy Sunday folks.  I hope everyone has had a blessed Easter season.  Ours was amazing.

We have gotten our first tournament behind us on Barren.  I was very happy to meet everyone.  While I am still having trouble working with the software, I know I will get it all figured out.

The day was beautiful the sun was out it was warm.  The fishing was tuff, but some of our fine anglers put limits together.  I was very impressed with the number of good spotted bass that was brought in.8D1A893F-2105-4486-953C-8D5D2ADBD438

We had a great meal Friday night, and one person recommitted his life to Christ.  95C35E6F-431F-45AD-BD65-45A52F1917CD

A great meal was provided by Barren Outdoors, and Ross Anglen delivered a great message.

We also can’t forget the hotdogs at the weigh in.  Thanks to Food Lion. And some good chefs.
